Welcome to ILACE 2025

The American University in Cairo is pleased to announce the Eleventh International Language Assessment Conference in Egypt (ILACE 2025), which will take place September 5th – 6th, 2025. The theme for this year’s conference is Assessment in Language Education: Research and Practice.

ILACE seeks to provide opportunities for professional development, networking, and scholarly discussion and debate within the area of language assessment. It also aims to promote active involvement and participation by offering opportunities for the exchange of ideas, expertise, and perspectives from Egypt, the region, and worldwide.

The ILACE conference focuses on the practice of assessment, especially ways in which key principles and theories in language assessment can inform our practices within the teaching and learning environment. The conference also aims to bring together all stakeholders - educators, researchers, and practitioners - to explore innovative approaches to language assessment.

This year, ILACE is highlighting the important role of research in language assessment and its contribution to connecting theory with practice. We invite proposals on completed or ongoing research in this area and are pleased to announce the launch of the first ILACE Conference Proceedings to showcase outstanding work.

At the same time, ILACE remains dedicated to sharing best practices and exploring how language assessment principles and theories inform teaching and learning. We invite members of our community - educators, practitioners, and researchers - to engage in meaningful discussions and share innovative approaches within our community of practice.

While proposals related to any aspect of language assessment are welcome, the conference organizers are particularly interested in proposals related to the following topics:

  • Learning-oriented assessment
  • Educator and stakeholder assessment literacy
  • Accessibility and inclusivity in assessment
  • Holistic assessment and learners’ wellbeing
  • Assessing young learners
  • Research on assessment
  • Formative and summative assessment techniques
  • The role of technology in language testing
  • Effective strategies for providing feedback
  • The ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in testing and assessment
  • Innovative applications of AI tools in testing and assessment

Please join us in celebrating eleven years of ILACE by sharing your expertise and experience at this year’s conference!
